Espadrille Shoes

Espadrille shoes which are also generally called as espadrilles, possess soles which are composed of rope which is molded and pressed into the shape of a sole and after that, a piece of rubber or may be wood is attached with some glue to the sole.

Espadrilles are available in various styles, however the most famous among people are the ones which do not have any laces and a wedge shaped heel. Because of this fame of wedge heeled espadrilles, they are a few times considered by the people as women's shoes.

This actually is a misconception since Espadrilles were actually unisex shoes and this is supported by the historical facts. They were first made in Spain and when their popularity spread around, there were women who opted more for these kinds of shoes. This is perhaps because women are always keen to try on new fashionable articles especially when you talk about footwear. Espadrilles were at first observed in the fourteenth century in the region of the Pyrenees Mountains in Spain and their name has also been derived from some jargon which was frequently used in this area. The initial espadrilles and the most genuine ones were made using the rope soles.

The rope itself was made by employing a stiff and hard grass called Esparto which was indigenous to this area of Catalonia in Spain. The grass was also used for various other handicraft uses and its name had its roots in the Greek language. Shops located in Catalonia make only some genuine espadrille shoes with grass soles. The shoes were initially designed to be inexpensive and authentic footwear keeping in view the requirements of farmers and other people belonging to the villages.
