Retro Shoes Are on a Comeback

Retro shoes never go old! Surprisingly, there are still a number of people that are in-tuned to this kind of bandwagon. Retro shoes are manufactured in limited styles; and people who are buying are not only wearers but some have also turned into collectors.

The fashion industry is just continually recycling the trends of yesterday! Trends are based on movements of a wheel- it just goes round and round. It means that the latest trend today may be over tomorrow and likewise, the past trends can go back tomorrow. Mere mortals like us just follow what's hot on the radar. We all source our style to the experts whether they are stylists, designers or celebrities and apparently magazines are making retro styles hot again!

How can you just get over the retro eras free spirited and bold approach to style? We rock and rolled in the 50's, joined the hippie movement in the 60's and we danced the disco vibe in the 70's and had an excess in the 80's. All these eras reflect the current situation at that point in history but most especially they influenced the revolution in style that we see today.

Retro sneakers have made a successful comeback. Shoe companies like Nike are now releasing sneaker models from the 70's and the 80's. Nike for example has released again in 1999 the Nike Air Jordan IV, which was originally released in 1989. This retro shoe was created back then after the famous basketball player Michael Jordan and the shoes' re-launch made fans rejoice, who could either add it to their collection or simply want to reminisce the good old days. There have been many remakes of Retro Jordans or Air Jordans but the first model was released in 1985 in the footwear market.

Add to the comeback list are plastic shoes. According to the New York Times, plastic shoes are also making a comeback with brands like YSL and Lacoste. In the 80's these plastic shoes that are made of PVC were known as Jelly shoes. Originally, they were created during the World War I because there was shortage in leather. Jelly shoes are flexible, usually flat and sometimes it comes with glitter. Today, jelly shoes have evolved and there are now a variety of designs including high heeled shoes- targeting people who do not have enough budget to buy shoes of leather material.

Chuck Taylor All Stars by Converse on the other hand have successfully made a comeback five years ago. Since then it can be seen everywhere being mostly worn by kids, teens and young adults in different colors. There are low-tops, high tops and even lace-less low tops. Chuck Taylors first became a hit in the 50's and were particularly a hit to the greaser (subculture ) or better known as "the hood" in modern times. Like the Air Jordan, Chuck's adopted its name from basketball player Chuck Taylor who adored the Converse styled shoe even before it was named after him. Part of its appeal or unique feature today can be pointed to the fact that they are unisex shoes.

The fact that retro shoes are making a comeback only proved that fashion has its way of bringing back the classics but with a twist- with the aim of improving the features for better durability, comfort and style.
